New High Power Towers Cool Up To 100 Watts Per Slot
Ayer, MA., December 1, 2004, Hybricon Corporation announces the release of a new line of 9-slot portable towers (the Cool-H Series) designed for today's high power boards. High power boards and systems have been around for a long time; what's new is that they are moving from the custom realm into mainstream standards-based applications. The power dissipation levels of today's high power VITA 1.7 VME64x, VXS, and CompactPCI® switch fabric boards just keep increasing; in the past few years power dissipation in the 50W-60W range was the norm, now the range is increasing to 75-100W. Up until now, these 75-100W boards could only be adequately cooled in high performance full sized rack-mount enclosures. Thermal analysis shows that this can now be accomplished in Hybricon's portable tower style enclosure. Thermal simulation of the Cool-H Tower shows an average airflow of 17.9 CFM (670 LFM) per front slot, sufficient to cool up to 100 watts per slot.
The Cool-H towers are available with Hybricon's 8-slot VITA 1.7 VME64x or CompactPCI® switch fabric backplane. Hybricon's backplanes have been computer simulated in Hybricon's signal integrity laboratory to ensure low signal cross-talk and trouble-free system operation. The enclosures are available with up to 800 watts of power.
Additional features include:
- Fully compatible with IEEE 1101.10/11 packaging standards
- Provisions for 80mm rear plug-in modules and transition modules
- Front and rear ground clips provide proper grounding (per IEC 950 section 2) for all plug-in modules thereby reducing the chances of circuit damage by electrostatic discharge
- Front-access peripheral module has provisions for mounting CD-ROM, hard disk, and floppy drives
- Custom configurations available
